Review of the Canon BG-E2 Battery Grip
This is a nice accessory for Canon digital SLR cameras 10D, 20D, 30D and can be used with the Canon BP-511 and 511A batteries. There is also a AA magazine that comes with it too. I actually like the look of my camera better with it on and it really balances it better to.
I like the balance this ads to the camera especially when used with larger more heavier lenses. It also has controls on it for the shutter release, spin wheel, focus point selector, and you can use it with a tripod as well.
This extra functionality makes it nice when shooting in portrait mode, which I happen to do quite a bit of.
It’s super easy to install by removing the battery door and inserting the BG-E2 battery grip. Add two of your lithium-ion batteries and now you have longer shooting power. This is so nice especially if you’re traveling or doing a photo shoot.
The Cons of a Battery Grip:
My only con; and it really isn’t much, is that it does make the camera heavier.
Overall Opinion:
As you can tell from reading this that I do like the BG-E2 grip. I have never had a problem with it. It balances the camera nicely and makes holding the camera either landscape or portrait easier.
Of course there are those that will have their opinions to. I’m sure there are some that don’t care for this accessory and others that do. For me, it’s been nothing but great.
Update:
There is now an updated battery grip BG-E2N for Canon digital cameras EOS 20D, 30D, 40D, and the 50D.
