The growth of digital photography has made it possible for everybody (even beginners) to capture special moments in their lives.

With improvements in resolution, ease of use, it's convenient and easy for you to take great pictures of those you love and cherish.

And let's not forget about photo editing capabilities which can be done online free of charge.

No more having to purchase expensive software. Although the proper software is essential for professionals; if you're just learning digital photography, these online sites can help you be more creative and artistic with the pictures you have taken.

Then when you are more advanced, you can purchase the software of your choice.

In our Resources section, we have listed a few great online photo editing websites to help get you started.

Alright, back to fashion photography. So you want to be a fashion photographer. You already have a passion for digital photography and you love taking pictures of people and think this would be a good profession for you.

Education and Training.

One of the first things you want to do is find yourself a good school and find out what kind of photography classes they offer. At the very minimum you will want to go for a bachelor's degree to learn the fundamentals of photography. This is required for many entry level positions.

Other classes may involve color theory, illustration and design, business classes - you will need to know how to market your services and how to get yourself established.

You definitely want to come out of school with the knowledge of how to put a portfolio together as this is what a prospective employer will see first hand - the kind work you do.

Although these are all the things and more you will need to learn, nothing will prepare you for the real world except for real world experiences and the bumps that come from trial and error.

What if you can't afford schooling right now, it just isn't in the budget? Photography is a very competitive market, so if you feel you have enough hands on knowledge of photography, you can always:

  • Check out your local camera stores and see if they know of or are having any seminars, day classes, or know of any online sources where you can study and learn more until you can afford school.
  • You can also see if there are any studios in your area that may be looking for assistants. This will also show you how professionals are running their businesses.
  • Possibly you could volunteer your time to be an extra pair of hands for a photographer. You would need to be very dependable, have some knowledge as college students may be looking for these same jobs as interns.

Getting Started in Fashion Photography.

Great! So now you believe your work looks like the work of the pros who's photos are on the cover of magazines. Most important - you believe in yourself and what you do, you really feel the moment - and get great shots. You know! your going to create great art.

You could also start with fashion editorials to get your pictures and your name out there.

Another possibility is selling your fashion images as stock photography. Although this can be a hard way to earn a living, it can help pick up the slack until something more promising comes along.

They will find you, you're great afterall.
